THE ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE IN ACHIEVING THE GOALS OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The article analyzes the historical stages of development of the processes of combining trade and environmental protection. The important role of international trade in achieving the goals of sustainable development is substantiated. It is determined that in modern conditions the balanced development of the components of international trade - economic, social and environmental – is important.

The experience of the European Union is analyzed, the main goal of trade policy is to combine economic development with social justice, high labor and environmental standards, the desire to use international trade and investment as a means to achieve sustainable development goals. The requirements for trade agreements, approaches to the implementation of sustainable development goals in the context of trade and types of assessment of the impact of trade on the environment at the stages of concluding trade agreements are clarified.

The main provisions of Chapter 13 "Trade and Sustainable Development" of the Association Agreement between Ukraine, on the one hand, and the European Union, the European Atomic Energy Community and their Member States, which regulate modern trade relations and require the integration of environmental and sustainable development issues, are analyzed. in the process of formation and implementation of state policy, including trade policy, as the presence of the environmental component in trade agreements must be clearly articulated and enshrined at the strategic level.

Ukraine must to accelerate the pace of approximation of its legislation to the norms and standards of the European Union in accordance with the requirements set out in the Association Agreement. Legislation adopted to implement the Agreement should take into account national specificities and apply mechanisms that will work in Ukraine in practice, and not only serve to confirm the fulfillment of obligations.

The implementation of certain areas of trade policy will ensure the effectiveness of the national economic system in modern conditions.
