Abstract

The evolution and main development vectors of Business Process Management (BPM) systems have been examined. The transformation of BPM from basic electronic document management systems to modern intelligent platforms combining process modeling, analytics, monitoring, and reporting has been traced.

The primary focus is on the transformational role of technologies, particularly Robotic Process Automation (RPA), intelligent process analysis, cloud technologies, and low-code platforms. It is argued that these innovations facilitate the automation of routine tasks, reduce application development time, and engage a wider range of business users in process improvement activities (the phenomenon of citizen development).

The article highlights five key directions in BPM development: digital transformation (automation, cloud technologies, data analytics); customer orientation (personalization, omnichannel approaches); collaboration and cross-functionality (distributed teams, cross-functional projects); adaptability and flexibility (Agile methodologies, microservice architecture, continuous improvement); and risk management (identification, scenario modeling, insurance).

The increasing role of BPM as an integrative platform that combines process management, data, and digital services within a single adaptive management framework is emphasized, enabling optimization, flexibility, and continuous improvement of business processes.

Special attention is given to the advanced use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics for informed decision-making, process optimization, and the creation of personalized information systems. It is noted that integrating traditional business process optimization methods (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen) with modern digital tools transforms BPM into a strategic instrument for enhancing efficiency, resilience, and competitiveness of enterprises in a dynamic market environment.
