The Global Sustainable Development Goals cover a wide range of unresolved issues, ranging from overcoming poverty, economic inequality, combating climate change and others. The tasks of sustainable transport development are indirectly focused on the main areas of application - infrastructure modernization, electrification of vehicles, digitalization of the transport industry. However, in the course of the implementation of the program to achieve the goals, it is increasingly evident that transport is a significant factor in each of them.
Transport, economic and social development, and environmental protection are complementary, interdependent components of sustainable development. The impact of transport activities on them can pose particular challenges in the context of urbanization, accessibility and health, and can be a vehicle for improving social equity, resilience and connectivity between cities and regions through the transition to innovative, sustainable, affordable and safe transport.
The article presents a theoretical overview of the global problems of sustainable development and identifies possible areas of influence of the transport sector to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the context of each of the seventeen goals.
Priority directions in the implementation of the sustainable development goals of the transport component identified improvement of transport accessibility and connectivity, decarbonization of transport, innovative technologies and digitalization of transport, security of the transport system, optimization of supply chains, employment in the transport sector, multilateral partnership. These areas have the opportunity to bring the transport sector closer to more environmentally friendly and inclusive transport systems, which are accompanied by the support of an effective transport policy.
Obviously, transport cannot play a decisive role for every declared global problem, but it is a vital stimulus for their real achievement. The multidimensional nature of the transport sector, cooperation and participation of stakeholders (public and private structures, transport research centers) are of great importance for achieving global goals. A unified, coherent and holistic approach ensures the implementation of a wider range of sustainable development Goals.
