Procedure for Retraction of Published Articles
The Procedure for Retraction of Published Articles in the Scientific Journal “Economics and Management” establishes the editorial procedure for withdrawing published materials in cases of identified academic integrity violations or significant errors that affect the scientific value of the publication. The Procedure is developed in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and international practices of scientific publications.
Retraction is applied when it is established that the research results are unreliable due to scientific misconduct or significant errors. Such cases include:
- fabrication or falsification of data;
- identification of plagiarism or self-plagiarism;
- significant methodological or analytical errors affecting the reliability of results;
- duplication of publication (redundant publication);
- copyright violations;
- unethical authorship involving individuals who do not meet authorship criteria;
- the presence of co-authors associated with the aggressor country;
- hidden conflicts of interest;
- significant violations of publication ethics.
Retraction is also carried out in case of violations of ethical standards for conducting research, including violations of the rights of research participants or the unlawful use of personal data. A separate ground for retraction is the concealment of funding sources if this could have influenced the interpretation of the results or the conclusions of the work. The decision to retract may also be made in other cases where the integrity or scientific reliability of the publication is compromised.
In situations where the identified deficiencies do not affect the main results of the research, adjustment mechanisms in the form of corrections are applied, without removing the article from scientific circulation. If there are serious doubts about the reliability of the results, but the final investigation is still ongoing, the editorial board may issue an expression of concern as a temporary measure until a final decision is reached.
Authors, the journal's editorial board, academic institutions, or third parties may initiate the retraction procedure, provided that substantiated evidence of violations is presented. All requests are subject to review by the editorial board. In the process of reviewing the retraction of an article, the editorial board:
- conducts a verification of the information received;
- may involve independent experts;
- requests explanations from the author(s);
- adheres to the principles of objectivity, confidentiality, and impartiality.
The review is conducted in compliance with the principles of impartiality, confidentiality, and alignment with international standards of editorial ethics.
After the procedure is completed, the article is not deleted; instead, it is marked as retracted with a clear “Retracted” label and the date of retraction. A separate retraction notice is published.
